I PROMISED THAT MY FIRST PRIORITY WOULD BE TO ALWAYS RESPECT THE TAXPAYER AND THAT WOULD BE MY GUIDING PRINCIPLE IN DECISION MAKING.
We now have predictable budget planning and lower tax rates. Gone are the days of double digit tax increases predicted every year and residents needing to swarm public meetings to demand more accountability from their elected officials. We as a council said 2.5% in the first term and 2% this past term and we delivered while still managing to cut the grass regularly! On multiple occasions I was proudly part of the team that fought back against members of council that wanted to raise taxes and fees higher so they could take more of your hard earned money.
HOW WILL I DELIVER ACCOUNTABILITY TO RESIDENTS?
As I have done in my thirty years involved in our community as a volunteer and now as your municipal representative, I listen to what residents say then I seek the answers and act to resolve the issues. Based on the satisfaction results from residents to date, with this approach my intention is to continue. Your opinion matters to me.
This approach has benefited the community in that we have accomplished lowered crime rates thanks to initiatives such as police officers on bikes which has increased the police presence in our parks and enhanced their ability to connect with residents. The partnership between my office, Crimestoppers and OC Transpo has reduced vandalism of bus shelters to a new record low. When you call your Councillor you will continue to get a prompt response and action. I have continued to attend events in each community and walk the streets visiting residents every year and not just at election time.
IN 2010, I PROMISED YOU THAT I WOULD WORK TO ENSURE THAT IMPROVING INFRASTRUCTURE WOULD BE A
PRIORITY OVER SOCIAL ENGINEERING. I DELIVERED.
IN 2014, I SAID I BELIEVED THAT YOU CAN MAKE BETTER DECISIONS ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL LIVES THAN GOVERNMENT SO IF
RE-ELECTED, I PROMISE TO CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, CORE SERVICES AND POSITIVE CHANGES FOR KANATA SOUTH. I DELIVERED.
IN 2018 I PROMISE MORE OF SAME – FOCUS ON FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY, CORE SERVICES AND PROGRESS YOU KNOW AND TRUST FOR KANATA SOUTH.
You may have been impacted by the frequent power failures of the decade the occurred in the early 2000's and part of my election promise was to stabilize the power supply, and i delivered. Or, you may be one of the 1,200 west end homes that flooded when council chose to build a fancy bridge instead of investing in sewers. My commitment to residents was for positive change in Kanata South and we have now secured over $40 million in Hydro investments.
We have invested $60 million into the storm and sanitary sewer system in our community to mitigate the risk of flooding. I have contributed considerable time and effort in the search for solutions to this challenge. I was able to secure $35 million in this effort for the West End Flood Mitigation project that has reduced the risk significantly. With an excellent understanding of the causes of the flooding, I ensured that all the work required to upgrade the sewer capacity was implemented, and after many years of work I am happy to say it is now complete.
With houses currently selling well above asking price, it's clear that these improvements have made an impact which makes Kanata South one of the hottest postal codes in the City!
We have started to transform Stonehaven Drive and completed work on Eagleson Road as well as introduced the first two of eight roundabouts planned to improve your commute because I believe getting you home to your family faster and safely is important. A new light at Castlefrank and McCurdy/Tamblyn has addressed a major traffic concern for Katimavik residents. Fernbank and Cope have been modernized and we are making progress on Michael Cowpland, Hunt Club Road, Old Richmond Road and Hope Side Road which are being expanded to provide capacity for the next 50 years (Kanata South Link Project).
Progress you know and trust for Kanata South will continue to be my commitment for our community.
